Carmine Therapeutics is an Esco Ventures X company pioneering a powerful new class of drugs based on engineered red blood cell extracellular vesicles (RBCEVs). Founded by Esco Ventures and Professors Harvey Lodish, Minh Le, and Jiahai Shi, Carmine focuses on developing a therapeutic platform that would address unmet needs related to the delivery of next-generation therapeutics such as nucleic acid-based therapies. Carmine was awarded the 2019 Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Golden Ticket to LabCentral (Cambridge, MA), and is well-capitalized to develop first-in-class therapies against genetic diseases. Carmine is based both in Cambridge, MA as well as Singapore.

The Biology Team in Cambridge, Massachusetts is looking for a Research Associate / Senior Research Associate to join us in this exciting journey. An ideal candidate is one who is independent, motivated, technically competent, and able to work efficiently in a team.


  • Perform a variety of molecular biology and cell biology experiments

  • Perform cell culture work and maintain cell lines

  • Perform sample preparation and purification, and independently conduct a broad range of in vitro characterization assays

  • Laboratory management duties including procurement, inventory management, ensuring equipment wellbeing by scheduling timely maintenance/ servicing/ calibration.

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the lab

  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of experimental design, research findings, inventories, protocols, maintenance logs, sample processing logs, SOPs, etc. in an electronic lab notebook

  • Evaluate and interpret the collected data and prepare oral presentations or written reports. Present and communicate research findings with internal teams

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein


  • Laboratory experience with general molecular cloning techniques, including bacterial transformation, plasmid isolation, and plasmid manipulation

  • Strong knowledge in molecular biology

  • Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques (eg., PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, and RT-PCR)

  • Excellent organizational skills and being able to multitask

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members

Preferred Skills

  • Cell culture experience

  • Cell-based assay development


  • B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or any related discipline with prior laboratory research experience

  • M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or any related discipline

  • Prior industry experience highly preferred
