Carmine Therapeutics is an Esco Ventures X company pioneering a powerful new class of drugs based on engineered red blood cells extracellular vesicles (RBCEVs). Carmine focuses on developing a therapeutic platform that would address some of the technological unmet needs related to the delivery of next generation therapies such as nucleic acid-based therapeutics. Carmine was awarded the 2019 Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Golden Ticket to LabCentral (Cambridge, MA), and is well-capitalized to develop first-in-class therapies against genetic diseases. Carmine has R&D operations both in Cambridge, MA as well as in Singapore.

The Biology Team in Cambridge MA is looking for a Molecular Biology Scientist to join us in this exciting journey. Ideal candidates will have solid research background with a strong publication record and possess excellent interpersonal skills. This candidate will be expected to work productively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with her/his team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and generate various types of plasmid for transgene expression in vitro and in vivo

  • Perform in vitro transcription to produce mRNA for RBCEV research

  • Purify RBCEVs for in vitro and in vivo studies

  • Establish functional assays in cell lines and primary cells

  • Perform flow cytometric and imaging analyses of in vivo and in vitro samples

  • Manage and coordinate with CRO for outsourced activities

  • Document, analyze and interpret experimental data in a timely manner

  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation in ELN

  • Prepare oral presentations and communicate results in internal team meetings


  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques, including construct design, plasmid cloning, plasmid preparation at different scales

  • Hands-on experience with in vitro transcription and mRNA characterization

  • Strong knowledge in gene expression regulation backed by publications

  • Experience in performing in vitro functional assays using cell lines and primary cells

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proficiency in all common office and scientific software

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members

Preferred skills

  • Hand-on experience with flow cytometry

  • Expertise with NGS experiments

  • Experience with in vivo mouse studies

  • Research experience in gene therapy and genome editing


  • PhD in cellular and molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or related discipline
